iBird Ultimate Guide to Birds App Reviews

SO useful in the field

Very helpful for field ID, with detailed species markings that can be turned on or off, along with several excellent, varied photos for each species, a page of well-organized descriptive detail about birds appearance and habitat. Multiple song and call recordings for each species is an astounding asset for ID, and periodically draws responses from nearby birds. iBird Ultimate provides lots of room for field notes, couple clicks enters time/date and GPS of sightings. Theres also an informative conservation status screen for each species. For better or worse, this app is a game-changer in the field as long as you have battery power. Appreciate how its developers appear focused on improving what is already a very good birding guide.

Well worth the price

Excellent app, so glad I read the WSJ article on birding and saw it was one of the apps recommended.

More info please

Being a gardener and a bird watcher, I would like the information on each bird to include what they normally like to eat.

Fantastic app!

As to birding, Im a book person, but when a friend demonstrated this app to me I was sold (and dumbfounded!). Its like carrying around a gigantic multi-volume bird encyclopedia on you phone or tablet. Nothing is lacking. I got it on sale for 19.95, but even at the full price of forty bucks, its well worth it if youre even somewhat serious about birding. An unbelievable find. A big thank you! to the team that put this together!

Very helpful and easy to use

Ive been using I Bird South for awhile and upgraded last week. I love the search feature--has the "around me" feature I was familiar with from Ibird Hawaii. The illustrations have pics of birds in various stages which is very helpful. I recommend it.

My Granddaughters best App

Great App. Easy to use with a ton of information about the birds. My granddaughter loves the pictures.

Excellent detail but few birds missing

Very happy with the handy searchable reference with details including sounds. However found a few local birds missing altogether. Example, could not find common moorhen that I see in the Bay Area. Hope the makers roll out upgrade with additional birds to make this a superset of whats covered in top birding books. Except the missing coverage this is a great app.

I love love love this app!

I have always been interested in birds and wanting to identify the ones in my area. This app has helped me identify every bird I havent recognized. I also love that it has detailed descriptions of each bird and has the sounds and calls for each one. My 4 year old would rather listen to the bird sounds on this app than watch tv, which is also a huge plus!

Awesome app. No native iphone 6 Screen resolution.

I adore this app, its the best for birding out there. It doesnt have native resolution, which makes things look blocky on an iphone 6. Please update and sharpen.

Best Birding App Available

Whether youre in experienced or occasional birder, this app is for you. It helps you identify birds by sight, size, and sound. And is very easy to use. It is my go to app when I am hurting anywhere in North America.

Awesome Disruptive Tech

annihilatus extinctus; Definition: technology which ends old ways of doing things. Particularly the ability to eliminate hefting large books around. All joking aside iBird is a fantastic example of mobile technology altering the fabric of our world. In this case you can clearly see the demise of the printed book, particularly old fashion field guides to nature and to birds. Im very impressed by this developers attention to details and love the iOS 9 spotlight search. After using iBird, its easy to imagine that someday, not too far in the future, children will laugh when you explain there was a time pages didnt sing (a birds song), pictures didnt have layers of information you could turn on or off, and GPS wasnt used to tailor the contents to your location. The iBird app does all these things now and I cant say enough about how it opens the world of the bird to anyone with a mild curiosity about what makes them so magical.

Better and better

Have used Kindle versions of iBird and really love using it on my cell phone.

iBird shopping spree contest

Its terrific! I use it all the time!

Quickly identifying birds

I love this app and have it at hand whenever I go on hikes. I love the "Birds Around Me" feature that quickly reduces the number of birds to a manageable list. I also find the suggestions of similar birds incredibly helpful.

I Bird

Using iBirdPro in northern Mexico. It has all the birds I see. Easy to find if know name. Good pictures. I like the journal. Easy to find ranges and bird calls.

BAM is a great feature!

Birds Around Me (BAM) whistles down the number of species to the ones within a certain GPS range. A really cool festure! The pictures and sounds are what keeps me coming to this app. Great job!

Fantastic!!

Fantastic! Im a beginning birder and its helped me immensely. Ive idd 177 birds in my first year and all were verified with this tremendous app! Its so deep that its helped the real pros I bird with as well.

Amazing!

My wife showed me this app, never been a big fan of bird watching but this app really changed that! Traveling the US and with this app you can select birds related to the area you are in. It even plays the sound of the bird and funny enough my iPad now attracts birds just by playing local birds songs! Amazing!! Well worth the money and real fun to play with. Get it, it brings a lot of fun and knowledge.
