iBird Ultimate Guide to Birds App Reviews

Excellent as far as it goes

My only wish was a larger database. There are several Florida birds where I live that seem to be missing. This may be a climate change symptom. Some of the birds we see here are apparently lost if the range data is any guide.

Great App very educational

It is really educational

Great App

I love to photograph birds, and this app helps me in many many ways. First, the identification is great, and with the included photos added, brings it to reality. Then, there is the sounds of the birds, which really helps track them down. Love everything about it. I have thrown away all the other apps i had ( and there were many!) because this one has it all. Love it!,

Fabulous content, mediocre app

The content is fabulous. All the birds, even very rare ones are accurately listed. There is a bird with two sightings in my state, 1974 and 1976. This app has that bird! There are many ways to search. All that is good. But the app itself is very clunky. Example -- I am glued for some reason to the search criteria I did for my very first search, which happened to be a starling. Every time I open the app, I see that starling. My search criteria default to selection of that starling. Reset does nothing in this app. It simply doesnt work. I have to pull up the search criteria and uncheck the 7 or so criteria I first checked to narrow down a starling. Only then can I select the criteria for the bird I am actually looking for.

Wonderful App

I have just picked up the hobby of bird watching and this app has made it easier for me to identify which birds Im looking at. Thank you very much!

Love, love this app!

I had the regular iBird for a couple years and upgraded to Ultimate a couple months ago. The "birds near me" feature is worth every penny. To be able to narrow the search by where you are and what season makes it so much easier to prune your search and figure out what bird you are looking at. With Journal you can keep track of what you saw and where. I dont carry a bird book anymore. IBird is so much more comprehensive and I have my phone with me anyway. Ive recommended it to many others.

Probably the best birding app out there.

Ive looked at quite a few birding apps and I can honestly say IMHO that this is far an away the best. Id have to say the only problem with it is the price. If youre an avid birder this is the one to have both for your phone and tablet. Beautiful on the iPad4 with Retina display.

Complete and comprehensive

The species and information are quite detailed. So nice to have my bird ID books essentially with me wherever I go. The pictures and field guide notes are very convenient.

Nothing better!

I suppose if you had Marlin Perkins, or even a team of ornithologists with you, you might do better than this app running with you in the field. Birds Around Me works great and speeds up field IDs tremendously. Indispensable, thanks.

Great birding app!

I use ibird ultimate, Merlin bird ID, and Peterson birds of NA. Each has its specialty. What I find in ibird is its super useful BAM (bird around me) search function, that helps me narrow down possible species vey efficiently. The photos of birds is another extremely helpful tool as well. Highly recommend for all birders!
